8 Seconds No More: PBR to Reduce Bull Rides to 6 Seconds

A significant change is going into effect for the cowboys of the PBR.

Andrew Giangola Apr 1, 2024 10:31 AM EDT

In what is being called the most significant rule change in the history of pro bull riding, PBR today reduced the length of time required for a qualified bull ride from 8 to 6 seconds. … Any rider who holds onto the bull rope without touching the animal, himself or the ground for a period of 6 seconds will now be granted a score.

The new rule will cover all PBR events at all levels in the U.S., Australia, Canada, and Brazil.

In a related development, New Line Cinema, owner of the rights to the seminal motion picture 8 Seconds, based on the life of fallen rider Lane Frost and the inspiration for many young Western sports athletes to pursue a bull riding career, will now market the film as 6 Seconds.

The new rule goes into effect on Monday, April 1.

They had me right up to the “6 Seconds” part.

by those who never "got it." This one is pretty obvious--(I mean who the hell thinks the bull-riding world would not go crazy over this), but each year I read through threads that include replies that SHOULD make it clear to other DUers that, yes, it is an April 1 prank, but because we are all in a hurry and rarely read the responses of others, some never get it. And then months or more down the line, someone is sure to reference what they'd read here previously to make an inane and wrong point--which most won't take the time to research and counter-- and thus it gets repeated on and on, over and over.

My pet peeve this morning... Just sayin.
