from 13 WHAM news. He has been recognized as having the longest career as a news broadcaster by the Guinness Book of World Records, and has won multiple Edward R. Murrow awards. He is a legend in our area and a really nice man. He's volunteered for many local charities and personally developed two special features on the local six o'clock news. One being the Bright Spot. He wanted every broadcast to end with an uplifting story that no matter how bad the rest of the news had been would remind us there were still good people and things that happened too.
He also developed Friday's Child which highlighted the lives of young teenagers who were in foster care looking to be adopted. He truly cared about helping them.
He is also just a kind gentleman. I remember my college roommate and I were headed into a department store to do some Christmas shopping. Mr. Alhart was on his way in, he actually stopped, waited for us, and said, "let me get the door for you ladies."
Whenever really horrible things happened for instance 9/11 it always brought a bit of comfort to listen to Don, explain what was going on, what we needed to know, and how to help.
A true class act. I am going to miss him.
