watch TV? My two dogs are completely oblivious to the TV. They will bark back at a barking dog on TV, though. But they are just purely reacting to the audio. They don't look at the TV when they bark back.

(4,558 posts)She liked anything with animals moving, except chickens. She HATED chickens! She's a Border Collie, though. She doesn't care much about it anymore, though, since her arthritis got so bad.

(208,050 posts)But I do know someone whose dog reacts. I've always wondered what causes them to notice. And I have another friend whose cat would turn off her VCR while she was at work.

(4,130 posts)The problem with regular tv or a movie can be a dog food commercial or any scene with an animal,,,, they don't even have to bark,,,, makes me nuts,,,,

(6,423 posts)Ordinarily, my chow gets all worked up when he hears dogs barking... but he doesn't seem to get that it's coming from the tv.
But every once in a while, something will catch his eye and he'll watch very intently for a while. I haven't been able to figure out just what exactly captures his attention.

(4,130 posts)our little dog (all 7 lbs of her) absolutely 'goes after' another dog on TV meaning she runs up to the screen and just barks her head off,,,, she sits and watches sometimes just waiting for a chance to do this,,,,
also she notices if I'm watching animal videos on my computer,,,, Yikes,,,,

(7,869 posts)I started leaving the TV on 24/7 for Bermuda due to the fact that he has separation anxiety. He didn't do well when his humans were out of the house and at work.
When Bermuda crossed the Rainbow Bridge, I just left the TV on all the time for Moppit as well.
Now that Moppit has crossed the Rainbow Bridge, I still leave the TV on 24/7.
At one point, one of them had knocked the TV over while watching and trying to catch something that was displayed on the TV screen.
