(29,503 posts)it was probably because the ignored person snarked or made a personal attack.
On balance, I think the ignored person is the likely toad in that situation.
Not commenting about you or anyone else responding here, since I am just speaking in general.
I am a fan of ignore, and will tell someone when I put them on my list.

(56,912 posts)announces they are putting Person B on Ignore how does that make Person B the Toad? Person B just gave back as good as they got to my way of seeing it.
Looks to me like Person A can dish it but, can't take it.

(56,912 posts)I just think it is hilarious. Ignore can be useful. I miss Ignore Threads from DU2 but, even then I only used it sporadically and never as a permanent solution and I, for sure, never announced to someone that I was putting them on Ignore. It just seems childish to me to tell someone. Honestly feels like they have given up and are running away while at the same time sticking out their tongue, that is how I visualize the action.
It is so funny to see them running with their tongue hanging out

(149,615 posts)Otherwise, it's just my own weird sense of curiosity that makes me want to do it.

(37,648 posts)You are, after all, here to have your posts read.
Makes sense to me that they would tell you they're placing you on ignore. You can't improve w/o knowing to what extent you've offended someone, if that was what happened. Secondly, they're letting you know not to bother posting any more for their benefit...they won't be able to see your posts. Third, the ignore has more impact when the ignoree knows about it.
Methinks you doth protest a little bit too much.

(20,176 posts)I've ignored my share of assholes I admit...but I use it just as often because of someone's posting patterns.
For example, I used to put Random_Thoughts on ignore...it wasn't because I disliked R_T, in-fact I liked him a great deal...it was because he had a tendency to post series of huge pictures that I wanted to skip in-thread. Likewise, I've never made a secret of the fact that I frequently put MFM on ignore and take him off again later because sometimes I am simply not up for his humor; it's not a reflection on MFM, it's a reflection on my mood. I ignore anybody who starts to post youtube music videos each in their own thread...it's to clean up content in the thread-list I don't have any interest in, being HoH. They too come off ignore later.
There are a lot of reasons to ignore posters that in no way reflect the poster being ignored.

I'm not an insufferable ass (at least not a BIG one), though I don't suffer bullies gladly. So I think
the folks ignoring me because of my attitude are minimal.
.
Some don't like my subject matter or approaches to it. That's OK -- I don't want to force anyone
to view my posts.
.
I think most don't like my "dots" nor my style of presentation. I use lots of physical space in a kind
of text/not-text fashion. I've always found this easier for ME to focus on material by others, so I
USE that technique in my posts, too.
.
Some used to accuse me of "spamming". I can't understand what kind of spamming they're talking
about and they would NEVER get specific when asked -- I think someone may have said I "spammed"
and then the others would repeat that, but be embarrassed when they realized that their justification
was, "Well... BOBBY said so." The closest I could come to it is my habit of posting all at once rather
than one at a time over an extended period of time (6 at a time max and not the traditional six "same"
posts that one usually associates with spamming -- but six distinct and independent posts). Even
when someone just posts "x" over and over, DU's spam filter (I don't know if it's still in existence)
wouldn't kick in 'til after a dozen or more posts.
.
The dots that I use -- people would declare them annoying... even obnoxious or "maddening". There
were more than a few folks (many of them would show up together) who put a lot of pressure on me
to change my style. Even if it were not there, that would raise questions, but ESPECIALLY with the
Ignore function present, this was much more an example of control issues on their part than the
inescapable "torture" that I "subjected" them to.
I can see many valid reasons why people would put someone on ignore, but the announcement of
putting someone on ignore reminds me of gradeschool playground behavior -- covering one's ears
with one's hands and chanting "LA LA LA LA I CAN'T HEAR YOU LA LA LA LA"!!!
.
It's a little weird and a lot funny. I think the last time it happened my response was "I miss you
already". It's kind of a Schrodinger's Cat conundrum -- "If I don't see a responsed from them, do
they have me on ignore or not?"
.
And while whether a cat is dead or not would concern me, being on Ignore or not does not.
.
I don't believe I've ever put anyone on ignore (though that might not be the case if I were to
spend more time in Meta or GD or certain other groups where obnoxious and/or bullying behavior
seems to be a norm). I find myself thoroughly capable of ignoring someone whose posts I've found
to be distasteful without any kind of tool needed.
.
.
.
Perhaps SOME of the people who have me on Ignore are in the background of this pic, while I
(note the avatar) am in the foreground).

(5,909 posts)Arguing or "discussing" matters seemed like a circle jerk. I got tired of it; perhaps I was too lazy. I would be considered lockstep with Obama or the Dems; they would just be voicing their criticisms.
No big deal. I have no one on ignore, because honestly I do get a real kick out of some of the insane shit people post. It's great for a laugh.
