The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsJust out of idle curiosity: I keep hearing about how Taylor Swift is the most
successful FEMALE artist, the the highest grossing FEMALE artist, the whatever-the-hell-category FEMALE artist. So I wonder-- which male artist equals her wealth, her crowds, her. . .well, everything, as a male artist? The not-so-subtle implication with the emphasis on FEMALE artist, that she doesn't quite equal male artists.
By the way, I just watched Taylor and Carole King at Carole's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame two years ago. Taylor's speech was great, such a loving tribute. And Carole's speech, calling Taylor "my professional granddaughter". It also cracked me up about the cat references!

(72,153 posts)shes breaking elvis records, currently, no 1 comes close.
and she does it all. shes the creative force behind the shows, the videos. she even sewed the costumes for a vid shot during covid, to keep the crew down.
and none of them spread it around like she does. not 1.
have u seen this?

(122,028 posts)theater announced a special showing of her "Eras" tour (didn't make it), and then, suddenly, there was all this hysteria about her and a football player, and magats went nuts. Before that, I only knew about her as one of the ensemble in the movie "Valentine's Day". That is not a comment on her artistry, I just have not paid much attention for many years. The last live performance I attended was Spyro Gyra at a small club in San Diego late '80's, early 90's.

(17,898 posts)... the dollar ain't what it was in the 60's. But I doubt, even adjusted for inflation, that many tours in older times would gross what artists are making now. For one thing, the ticket prices are 'way more now (adjusted for inflation) than they were then. Which is true of most forms of mass entertainment.
