I don't suppose anyone in the Pittsburgh area has a spare room they'd like to rent?

Things are looking a bit iffy on the housing front for me, as my SIL is getting a lot of pressure from her friends to kick my sorry ass out of her house. Well, I can only afford about $200 a month for the room, I can see their point (that's taking into account food and other bills I have to take care of).

I would love to move back to Pittsburgh (or Philly in a pinch), as Florida is an incredibly depressing place to live. Unfortunately, one needs to be a PA resident to get housing help in PA (what a novel idea!). So even though I'm eligible for any subsidized housing around, I don't live where I can get to it.

It's annoying, I'm a quiet guy who keeps to his room virtually 24/7 and doesn't bother anybody, but apparently that's not good enough for some people. Grouse, grumble.

I've considered getting a roommate, but haven't acted on it. How long do you have to live in Pa before you are eligible for the programs? And how nice it would be if eligibility for federal programs transferred over state lines?

I wish you luck finding a place. Hope you'll let us know how it goes.

... there is no residence requirement per se. But the forms have to be turned over in person at the office, they don't accept mail-ins. As it is rather a long commute from FLA to PA to turn in papers for getting on a housing waiting list, for all practical purposes, one must be living there to register.

PA was my home for sixty years, but frankly I'd be happy to move anywhere more blue than otherwise, preferably with actual weather and no fascists.

leak and the water soaked into the carpet, and walls --all of which caused mold, It looks like a garage now. We scheduled a contractor to fix after Christmas as it's cheaper at that time. I will look on MY neighbood to see if any thing is listed. Good luck and sorry I couldn0t help at this time.

I could probably afford a little more rent, too.

I have very few needs. A roof, a bed, and access to a microwave to cook meals. I've been using my SIL's fridge to store milk and so on, but could spring for one of my own if it came to that. And it is literally true that I spend 24/7 in my room: you won't find many more introverted than I, and since I don't drive anymore (diabetes-linked neuropathy), I wouldn't be going anywhere very often anyway.
