I'm not saying I'd want to be someone's 'uncley', but I think we deserve a cute nickname.
Every time I say goodbye to one of my nieces, I tell them "Bob's your uncle", because it's true.

(24,438 posts)carried the name Godfather to me. He had no children of his own, and I rather think he enjoyed me introducing him that way sometimes.

(22,229 posts)He had 3 sons and he and my aunt considered me the daughter they never had. They gave me gifts on all occasions. I just called him uncle.
Funny story about him. He was my father's younger brother and very good looking, fit and trim and looked younger than his age. So, when I was 16 and coming home from a date on Valentine's day, my mother met my boyfriend and me at the door. She said that someone was waiting for me in the kitchen. My boyfriend followed us.
It was my uncle/godfather. He had a huge Valentine heart of chocolates for me. I gave him a hug, and my date got angry, said he didn't have to put up with being treated that way. My mother and I realized his mistake and laughed, which made him angrier.
I explained that the man was my uncle/godfather but the boyfriend asked why he was there so late in the evening. We told him that my uncle worked nights for the local newspaper, lived out of town, and was on his way into work. My uncle showed him his driver's license and a family photo with his wife and kids to convince him.
