What I've always found intriguing about my six degrees is how extensive it is.

For example, here, I am with Margot Kidder:

Kidder was, of course, once married to Pierre Trudeau:

(So many connections from that alone)

Here's Trudeau with Fidel Castro:

Who once met my great Uncle, Joe Louis:

And here's the picture that I took of my Uncle Joe with one of my cousins:

This just goes to show that MrScorpio is at least within six degrees of seperation of, uh... MrScorpio.

Cute thread!

Some time ago someone posted a link to a site where you could search for 6'degree connections.

their degrees of separation via films or TV or (maybe) theater.

https://oracleofbacon.org/

I thought for years that Oracle site was wrong because it had a former roommate of mine who'd done some films and TV two degrees from a much more famous actress, because my roommate had made a guest appearance on a TV show that the much more famous actress had as one of her best-known credits. I thought it should have been one degree.

Then I did more checking and discovered the more famous actress hadn't appeared in that series for the first time until a later episode in that first season, so the Oracle website had been right.

people they knew. Four degrees to everyone they knew. And so on.

So even a single person you know who's well-known or well-connected (behind the scenes but not personally famous, not a celebrity) connects you to thousands of people, two degrees away, and you can see why most people on the planet are only 6 degrees away from most other people.

It's less, of course, if you count only close friends and/or business associates, and their close friends and/or business associates.

But if you count everyone you've had even a brief friendly or business encounter with and exchanged a few words with (not counting just seeing them someplace), there are still likely to be a huge number of people you're only two degrees from, including a lot of famous people.

Especially if you're older and have lived in a number of places.

But even if you're living in a small town and never left, if you know the mayor they probably know lots of other politicians, and a neighbor might have been a roadie who worked with lots of rock bands, and so on.

I started thinking about that one of the other times we discussed degrees of separation here, and realized I was two degrees from Marilyn Monroe and Roger Moore and lots of actors and actresses, two degrees from the Beatles and lots of musicians, two degrees from Norman Mailer and lots of writers, and two degrees from every president from Truman through Biden with the possible exception of Trump, but possibly Trump as well (I know a lot of Republicans - don't agree with them, but know them).

Small world...

About the only way NOT to be within two degrees of a lot of people is to live your life in a very isolated area and know only people for whom the same is true. And that can be said of very few people on Earth.

Plus one former friend who became pretty famous in a creative field.
