(21,755 posts)Back in '94, I had started doing Y2K work for Nationwide in Columbus Ohio. As we were waiting for one of our first in person meetings (in Ohio) to start, a bunch of us were just chit-chatting when someone said something about the Buckeyes (the OSU team), so I asked what a Buckeye was... Someone spoke up right away and said it was a poisonous nut and as I was wondering why they would choose that to name a team after, someone else spoke up and said it was also a candy treat for kids made around Christmas time.
It kind of caught me a bit off guard and I could feel my face going into deep thought mode and I said... You... give your kids... treats... that look like... Poisonous nuts? Someone said... Well, you make it sound like a bad idea when you put it that way. So I replied... Is it a good idea?
Fortunately, the leader of the meeting came in and the conversation ended

(25,932 posts)Its really smelly. Reminiscent of road kill. Doesnt stop people from burning it in their fireplace, though. Stinks up entire neighborhoods.

Just the variety of aromas (and sounds) while making that walk made that long trip to the fair worthwhile!

(25,932 posts)This wasnt from a state fair but it did come from a food truck. Lump crab pierogies. I believe an entrepreneur could clean up at a state fair with something this good.

(14,888 posts)From 56th St to 42nd St Sometimes a bit further!
There are plenty of restaurants along the way! Plus other food vendors that join in.
When you get to ?55th or ?54 St it goes down hill I once took a telephoto shot. So the dip was exaggerated - "regular" looking then like "flat Earth" the "edge" and then the crowd beyond is now a mass of teeny figures going into the distant until under the Port Authority Bus Terminal Bridge! Punctuated in the near mid ground by color blocks of kids bouncing castles. Glorious!
So I always get a sweet sausage & peppers (w onions) sandwich. A little while later Zepolies.
Then it depends... Greek shesh kabob, Indian chicken tandoori, cheese bread sticks, and more. Used to have a great pie company with a yummy sour cream apple pie with walnuts! You gotta be extra great to win this dark Chocoholics taste buds!
Haven't been since covid. Hopefully next spring!
