Rick Beato - The AI Effect: A New Era in Music and Its Unintended Consequences

Cross-post from Music Appreciation.

New from Beato yesterday. Would love to hear what you think about this...

I watch a lot of his videos, but had missed this one until it was posted by DUer xocetaceans in a reply in a thread about AI and music that I'd posted in General Discussion: https://www.democraticunderground.com/100217884313#post2 . As I said there, I didn't agree with Rick comparing AI to other technological changes. This is much more harmful and disruptive.

regulated and limited.

There are many good uses for AI. This is NOT one of them.

5. I didn't get that from the video. He seemed gleeful predicting AI will take over entertainment.

about auto-tune and computers earlier. I do think Rick is marveling at how fast everything's changing with AI - which probably almost all of us are. But once we get past the immediate "Wow, this is amazing!" reaction, which is perfectly understandable, there's almost always a "How will we survive this change?" feeling from people who realize what the impacts could be, including on their own livelihoods and those of people they know.

Sorry to hear about the laptop problems. You've been able to keep that laptop going longer than any of mine, though - they've lasted about six years each, and from what I've read even that's fairly good for a laptop. These days I use an inexpensive tablet for a lot of what I do online.

I've discovered many 2022-23 build laptops have 2005 or even earlier processors ($500 budget). Or yucky drives. Or hated screens. Aaarrrgggg!

the prices, and they're cheaper now, only about $70. I use mine with a strap that converts to a stand - this one https://www.amazon.com/Fintie-Universal-Tablet-Strap-Holder/dp/B071R5HMYP but there are lots of options. I prefer the laptop and the real keyboard for some things, but the tablet is very handy and useful.

This is the kind of thing that can and will have huge real world ramifications in politics.
