I had to pump my own gas in Marietta Georgia. After sitting in the car waiting for 5 minutes I realized I was supposed to do it myself. I don't attribute this to any skill but I aced it the first and only time. I don't know if I'd be as lucky again. I know my brother didn't fair as well on one of his trips because he was clearly angry and ashamed when he recounted his own experience.

i knew you could get full service, but i had no idea there were places where you were not allowed to pump your own gas.

Statute: ORS 480.330

My frequent visits to New York has often have side trips to NJ - and I find it very funny is that while most of us are used to getting gas on our own, it's just finding it very odd to see somebody fill their tanks up.

My question is this: does one even tip the guy for servicing you?

I never would have guessed that was still a law anywhere in the US. I think pump your own came to Michigan around the time Ford was President.

Daughter, from DC, attended college in Philly, with MANY classmates and friends from NJ, so daughter was always asked to pump gas for them! She LIVES in NJ now, so her kids (far future!) will have to be taught when they visit me in MD!
