The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsEvery year it enters our home like a plague.
It never gets better, in fact, it seems to worsen. For reasons I can't understand, my wife welcomes it, while I abhor it.
You guessed it. I'm talking about Lifetime Network Christmas movies.

(51,513 posts)true crime murder and mayhem programs. So I subscribed to Hallmark and watched, maybe, two movies. I quickly went back to the murder and mayhem, realizing it was MUCH less damaging to my mental health.

(24,478 posts)I just returned from the grocery store, where I resisted that yet again. Just too many calories. I know I will will give in, though. I like it hot with brandy.

(15,377 posts)But I really dislike eggnog. Not sure what it is.
I bought a carton for my husband.
I'll just go for the hot brandy, OK?

However, if you want to watch a sort of an anti-Hallmark Christmas series, check out Home For Christmas on Netflix. It's about a thirty-ish woman whose family has been relentlessly pestering her about finding a new boyfriend and husband prospect ever since her former boyfriend, whom her mom adored, dumped her three years ago. So she makes up a story about having started dating a new guy whom she will bring to the family dinner on Christmas Eve - and she has only a month to find one. It sounds awful and (ick!) heartwarming, but it isn't; it's goofy and funny and very bawdy. The Hallmark aficionados would hate it but I thought it was a hoot. If you don't mind subtitled shows (this one probably couldn't get made in the US), check it out.
