I need some advice!!! My son, Will, had a cat named Scout. She was a "one-person cat". She sat on

his shoulder everyday as he wrote. Will passed away suddenly 3 weeks ago. We have found a new home for Scout BUT SHE WON"T COME OUT OF HIDING in his apartment. After repeated attempts to catch her, we put a Have-a Heart trap (a large one) in the room where she usually eats and we put food and tuna in the trap. Still no luck. She was last spotted hiding in a small opening (for plumbing) in a kitchen cabinet. She was too far into to the hole to get to. I have a critter rescue guy coming this morning. Any advice or words of wisdom?

When I had to take him to the vet or not be near him I used to make sure I had some of my clothes not recently washed with him. He could smell my scent and calmed down. If I was out for the day he would curl up in my clothes. If you do have some left that might help her. I got that advice from a cat lover who had done the same.

She hid in my basement for about 11 months until I finally found her inside a leather recliner chair. I had to cut the back open to get her out. She finally made up to me when I gave her catnip and food treats whenever I spotted her. She never quite got over me kidnapping her from my Aunt’s home.

If you play a loop of him talking, maybe she might walk out on her own curious.

Put it near his old clothes that the other person suggested and the cat will at least have a tiny part of him to get next to.

You could try putting a pile of those in the trap to lure Scout in. So sorry for your loss.

Her intake form said her original owner moved & gave the cat to her mother where apparently the mother's cats "brutalized" the new cat for 6 months before the mother finally took her to the pound. When we brought her home, she ran right down to the basement & found a secluded spot up by the furnace vent. For five months all we saw was her tail. But I'd talk to her when I was working out or doing laundry. Then I started seeing evidence that she'd been upstairs during the night, so I started leaving a treat for her. It took a few more months, but she eventually came around & within a year, she ruled the house like a cat should. I would just give the kitty her space & the time she needs to adjust. I would avoid dragging her from her hiding place & forcing her to socialize. The suggestion to find something your son wore is a great one.

I'm so terribly sorry for your loss.
