Wha'tha'hay decided to treat myself well this A.M. - broke out a new shaver blade

Last edited Mon Aug 8, 2022, 12:57 PM - Edit history (1)

Disclaimer: Too bad there has to be a disclaimer for what is intended as a ridiculous, throwaway, yet observationally quaint, slice o'life, but here 'tis: This is not SPAM. This is not an endorsement of a brand, certainly not paid. The worst that might be disapproved of is that it fails in its intention. Tia.

So going about the A.M. routine, at the point of doing the shaving bit, with the blade that has aged and become scratchy, pondered a bit about replacing it with a new one, the pondering consisting of the engrained deference to Economy (scrimping/saving on SMALL things, splurging on frivolity) - suddenly the rationalizations took over - Hey, life is SHORT, what the HEY, might as well SPOIL myself!1

So I threw aside the old blade and cracked open a new one. And this is not a mechanized, high end product. Nothing more or less than a BIC disposable. Talk about SPLURGING!

Am reminded from scores of years ago when some random dude on t.v. was giving advice and said that shaving components only account for about $40 per year and that therefore one should scrimp on other things, not on this category.

Reminds me how somebody once showed me a coffee table type book of glossy photos of men's fashions as an ill disguised HINT on how I might modify my wardrobe. I turned to the frontispiece with the author's name and said, "This is what THIS guy likes. What does this have to do with me?"

As for BIC and this not being an endorsement, have used these blades a couple of times many years ago, then NOT (no reason) for scores of years and now just recently as a change from another brand of disposables. Am reminded of an early interview when Carol BURNETT was starting out and she was asked what style of interior decorating she favored and she said, "Early Cheap." So my shaving choice is on throwaway, not high end "quality."

Reminds me of the "popular" historian Will DURANT, who amassed the huge (in doorstop terms) books, who said he did his compositions in longhand, using the cheap BIC ballpoints, and he literally *marvelled* at the thing in his hand at how handy and long lasting it was. Reminds me of how James MICHENER equated himself with the supposedly high class author Edward GIBBON whose books were also doorstops, saying, "Scribble, scribble, right GIBBON?" (paraphrase) - Am reminded that Alex HALEY was asked what he would do if he had known how best selling his books would be and he said, "I would have typed faster."

POSTSCRIPT: If needed, the funny point is supposed to be how absurd my "splurging, spoiling myself, treating me WELL" is. Tia.

POST POSTSCRIPT: I wasted a lot of time and effort in this useless post, much delaying my daily tasks. If you don't like it, there is no need to feel OBLIGATED to let the world know of your precious disapproval, just move right along. Tia.

Société Bic S.A.,

commonly called Bic and stylized as BiC, is a French manufacturing corporation based in Clichy, Hauts-de-Seine. It sells a world-leading brand of lighters and pens since its founding by Marcel Bich in 1945, and a competitive amount of shaving goods.[6] For several years, it sponsored Formula One and bicycle racers.

In 1942, Marcel Bich and his partner, Édouard Buffard, set up a business creating writing instrument parts in a factory in the Paris suburb of Clichy, where they began production of pen holders and pencil cases.[7] Marcel Bich bought the patent for the ballpoint pen from Hungarian inventor László Bíró, and using Swiss watchmaking tools, he devised a manufacturing process that produced stainless-steel balls for the tip of the pen.[8] Bich soon perfected the design of the ballpoint pen, and the Bic Cristal ballpoint pen became the company's first product in 1950.[9][10] ....

The Bic Cristal is exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMa) in New York and the Center Pompidou in Paris.[8]

In 2020, the Bic Corporate Foundation was recognized in the Netflix Documentary On Est Ensemble. The film follows French social entrepreneur Stephane de Freitas on his journey to meet social change worldwide, introducing viewers to the organization’s work in Brazil to educate and empower women.[43] ....
