Not cleared for weight bearing yet, and the shower gets slippery.
I swear, it's like having a toddler in the house. Turn my back, and he's likely to do something he shouldn't.

I break out in a cold sweat before I enter the shower. Feels like I'm going to the gas chamber.

shower downstairs, and a typical fiberglass shower up stairs.
Wife uses downstairs, I use upstairs, because old habits are hard to break.
The downstairs one has a floor that isn't slippery, grab bars, two shower heads, etc.
However, on the upstairs one, I wanted to mount grab bars, but it's very problematic because the shell of the shower sits a good inch and a half away from the wall, and though they make devices that allow you to hopefully mount a grab bar into a stud, I can't find the damn studs easily without a lot of work, and if I miss, I'm left with a two inch hole in shower.
So I mounted those suction cup grab bars in there. They are a rather poor alternative because they will not support my weight, but they do help a lot for balance.
The shower is bigger than a normal shower stall, but not by much. There's two "seats" in the shower, but it looks like they were made for toddler. I do not have an especially large butt, but there's no way I'm going to try to sit on those. I'm not sure how well a shower seat will fit in there. also, I'm having a lot of trepidation with purchasing one, because my wife is unable to explain to me how you wash your butt while sitting in one, even though I pose the question to her daily...several times each day.
To top it off, there's some really nice looking sliding glass doors on this shower. I remember when I bought them, I asked if I would die if I fell through them. The response was "Well, maybe". So of course, I bought the doors! 
I fell in the bathroom last month and crashed through a closet door. While standing at the sink washing my hands. I tend to throw myself involuntarily to the ground frequently.
So taking a shower is a challenge, and I don't back down from challenges.
Just taking a shower downstairs would be the right solution, but that's too easy.
That being said, I'm very happy that your husband views things like this in the way that a normal person would, and I'm glad he likes the chair!
