(23,975 posts)I brought a cat home to the US that I adopted while I was stationed in Japan. There was no way I could have left him there. I had him for 20 years.

(23,975 posts)...peninsula of Michigan, Max used to go over to the next-door neighbors every Friday for fish. They were Catholic and still did the no meat on Friday thing.
Max was quite a character, and even people who didn't like cats liked him.

He sounds like he was a real character. Bless him, and you.

(23,975 posts)...on the pediatric unit of Francis A. Bell Memorial Hospital in Ishpeming in 1982. It was like stepping into a time tunnel as far as health care. The nurses on the adult units still wore caps, and the doctors expected the nurses to stand up and relinquish their chairs when they came into the charting area to do their notes and orders.
One day, while driving around listening to the car radio, I heard the radio guy say something along the line of, "When we cone back, we'll have the weather report from the Twin Cities." I was somewhat puzzled as to why the would be reporting the weather from Minneapolis and St. Paul. He was talking about Ishpeming and Negaunee!
I ended up teaching in the school of nursing at Northern Michigan University for the rest of the time we were there. I was no longer in the Air Force, but my husband was - we met while in Japan, where he was my next-door neighbor in the BOQ (bachelor officers' quarters).
