Finally, my pain from the root canal has abated. But omg last night was pure torture.

I had to take 3 doses of two acetaminophin/codeine pills to get through the night and early morning. I am fine now but it was torture. I have never been in so much pain from a root canal before.

What would be the difference from former root canal procedures I have had? Same dentist and I assume same procedure.

I am guessing age is the reason, but I don't know that for sure. I'm 81. My last r.c.s were probably 8-9 years ago and I can only recall one and it wasn't this awful at all.

I was really worried because I also take amitriptyline for relief from post herpetic neuraligia pain. So I skipped that one out of abundance of caution. For an old person, I don't take many meds and my only pain is that PHN and also some arthritis, which I am making easier through physical therapy.

I have given up even my wine with dinner and drink no alcohol. I feel good most of the time.

Any dental experts here to inform us about root canals?

I’m sharing your pain. About to head to the ER with an abscessed tooth. Yesterday’s prescriptions aren’t cutting it and need a specialist to help out. Got a feeling that I’m going to be short a tooth at the end of the day.

Maybe you should call your dentist or doctor about that?

A root canal removes the nerve, as you know. Maybe there is an infection in the gums or jaw?

I would suggest warm salt water, (strong) rinses every few hours. Don't swallow any. That pulls the inflammation out and soothes infections. It works well for me in cases like that.

There is definite soreness at the site.

If things don't improve I'll call him first thing Monday a.m.

It might have been more infected than I thought. The ache that took me to the dentist in the first place was not this severe.

I'll try to salt water. And I"ll rest easy that it's not more drugs, just salt water!

which doesn't seem likely with X-rays and all.

The only pain I had was getting the $1,100 bill and I have no insurance. They did give me 5% off for paying cash.

I doubt he missed anything. But anything is possible.
