Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI don't know who Ginger Biscuit is. But today, I AM Ginger Biscuit.
So I started a shoveling project in the garden yesterday and started to swing that shovel around without doing any stretches. I paid for it this morning when I felt an electric jolt when I merely turned a little bit too quick. Oddly, my back is fine. I usually get that jolt late at night after a full day's work, but today it was in the am. That was new.
Anyway, I thought I should focus on something on the light side so I started house-cleaning. It's going to sound weird, I went through the mopping quickly and just progressed from there. Eventually, I got to the toilet. I decided to tackle those hard water stains. And there, my real adventure began.
I tried everything. Here's a sample:
1) baking soda and vinegar fizz bomb. Left it in for about 20 minutes and scrubbed.
2) Poultice of vinegar.
3) Poultice of vinegar and lemon juice.
4) Bleach and vinegar.
The stains are coming out a bit at a time, but in my mind I said to myself. "My goal during my Covid quarantine is to have the toilets look like they're spanking new." I said this more than a few times. I was possessed.
So, then I got to the next video on the list. The suggestion: WD40. I actually watched a video of a man cleaning a toilet with WD40. The toilet didn't have water stains. It looked like it had other specks and bits, and I still watched the whole thing.
And then I thought I missed something and I wondered what everyone else who had watched the video was thinking about it, and that's when I read Ginger Biscuit's comment:

(36,311 posts)Acids and bleach will release chlorine gas.
Ammonia and bleach will release toxic, irritant chloramines, and possibly even explosive NCl3.
Oranic solvents and bleach can release carcinogens, lachrymators, and other nasty stuff.
Simplest rule: Don't mix bleach with ANYTHING but cool water.

(46,775 posts)I used an old bleach that we had longer than I care to admit.
I'm not sure where I saw the video which recommended the bleach. If I come across it again I'll post it.
But, thanks for the information!

(22,599 posts)Can get paper towels sopping wet with high strength vinegar and they'll stick to the inside of the toilet to dissolve whatever's there.

(46,775 posts)As soon as I decide what I have that is full strength, I'm going to empty the water and put poultices on the bottom.
