About a month ago, I was worried about what was coming with the Covid19-Virus. I bought some groceries from Amazon, things I wanted in case we could not leave our house. Tonight I signed on to Amazon and up popped some of the items I previously purchased, I guess hoping that I would buy them again . NO WAY!
Here are two examples of the new rip-off prices
Folgers Coffee - 51 oz can, I paid $8.98- now $22.98
NutraGrain, Breakfast bars -I paid $18.38 for 36 - now $24.90

(11,423 posts)and it is against the law to price gouge in emergencies and the businesses will be fined heavily if they get caught. One store in Ontario tried to sell lysol wipes for $30. got caught and tried to say it was a "miscommunication" or some lame excuse. So if you live in Canada be sure to report any stores gouging.

(26,132 posts)have you thought about actually going into a store?
It really isn't as deadly as you might think.

(3,268 posts)For instance say someone (me) who had several hospitalizations in the last two years (let's say four) for pneumonia, are you that certain shopping is a good idea for me?

(7,119 posts)Good plan and will probably need to go longer, we are ordering all pre-paid online deliveries, no exceptions.
I aint voluntarily getting within 20 ft of other humans and expecting that for as long as necessary.
Good Luck!

(3,268 posts)Of course I'm staying in. My actual complaint is that I have been doing on line ordering and store pickup at two different grocery chains for over 6 months-now that it is critical for me to have the service one chain cancelled it completely "for now" and the other is so slammed I can't even get a pick up slot. I had a housekeeper four hours a week but he decided to isolate and the replacement is only available 2 hours a week. So instead of an hour every week or so to pickup my order I now have to assume I can only send the aide shopping every two weeks and also only vacuum and do laundry every other week...

(16,433 posts)It's all about demand I guess. I have noticed it plenty of times on things I re-order. Not just Amazon either. I order craft supplies and the prices can be all over the place for the same product. But of course this is a time for gouging as well.
