That was a kitfox. It would have died like that.

we captured & released several skunks (and porcupines) with jars stuck on their heads. Usually easy to catch because they can't see you or where they are going but the trick, in both cases, was to keep out of range of the hind-end.

You can tell how dehydrated the poor little fox was.
Thank goodness that man came along. And shame on the humans who pollute the Earth with trash that endangers animals.

I've a soft spot for foxes since knowing a very sweet neighborhood gray fox last year. Loves them. 🐾
