My daughter used to sing this to my granddaughter. She listened to it a lot when she was pregnant so it seemed to call her down.

(66,465 posts)He's my step-grandson, actually, the son of my step-daughter. I don't have any kids of my own.
Anyway, he was a very patriotic baby; he fell asleep most often to my rendition of "Shenandoah". For a while, I was the only one in the house he would fall asleep for. My step-daughter would try to get him to go to sleep, fail, then pass him off to Mrs. Aristus. She would try gamely for a while, and when he still refused to drop off, she handed him to me.
I would sing him "Shenandoah", trying hard to emulate Paul Robeson's rich, warm, gobsmackingly beautiful rendition, and he would eventually fall into a deep sleep.
That was years ago; he's going to be twenty in July. Where did the time go?
