the cabin air filter in my car. Removed two trim panels and four screws removed the glove box and the light connector two more screws and unsnapped the filter door retainers removed the old filter then I found out the moron at Auto Zone gave me the wrong damn filter. Well I saved the $147 an hour labor charge though.

I did my Santa Fe and my mom's Elantra last year and I don't recall it being much more than unhooking the things that let the glove box drop out of the way.

on them anymore. To change the oil you have to remove 11 screws and a panel to get to the drain plug and filter. Plus I have ramps that I can't use because the car is too low to the ground. I run the car onto two 2×6 s then another 2x6 and another 2x6 to get it high enough to squeez under. They make it easy to put gas in though.

It wasn't that long ago you were expected do a tune up twice a year and an oil change every three months or three thousand miles. If you weren't a decent shade tree mechanic, you'd better have had a dad, kid, or friend who was one because half the guys running shops weren't real trustworthy. And the manufacturer warranties through the 70s (with some exceptions) only ran about a year.

changed the oil in my truck I forgot the drain plug and poured 6 quarts of oil in the engine and found the drain pan had overflowed. Never got a DWI though.

but, dang! that's a real wanna-kick-yourself lesson to learn.

Many years ago, hubby & I took a 6 week car maintenance course on how to do simple tasks like refill tires, check and even change the oil, and so on. It was taught by a mechanic at the dealership. He told a story about how he did some major engine work for an expensive car when he was interrupted for one reason or another. He went back to finish the car and the paperwork, gave the keys to the customer, and they left. They came back 20 minutes later saying that the oil light was on.

Oh, crap. He was about to put the oil in when he was interrupted, then he forgot about it entirely. It didn't take long, but it was a long enough drive without oil to ruin the engine he had just replaced.

mothers car she told me the engine had a bad miss in it. So I took it for a road test and it ran fine. I asked her when she had the problem and she said when she gets on the interstate. I live in the country on a two lane road so I take it out for another road test and get it up to 60 miles an hour. I come over a hill and there sets a OHP car. He stops me for doing 60 in a 40 zone. I thought maybe I could talk my way out of the ticket. I told him about the problem and he said it seems to running pretty good to him and wrote me a ticket.

Have the car owner make the sounds the car makes with their mouths.

Every vroom vroom, every chuggity chuggity, every screech, thump, and whine. It was hilarious and even helpful once in a while.

A ticket for 20 mph over the limit is an expensive way to get a third opinion on how the car sounds.
