This was at 11:30 at night. My girl(a 13 yo cat)sleeps at the foot of my bed. I laid down next to her, not real close, maybe 12-18 inches away. Was telling her what a good girl she was, but she was giving me the stink eye. I know that look, "Get out of my face human". So I went to get up.
As soon as I moved, she made her move. One claw caught me on the inside of my right nostril, bridge side. Hurt like hell. I screamed and instinctively put my hand up to my nose. When I took my hand away it was covered in blood. The coverlet was covered in blood, the sheet had blood on it. I got up to run into the bathroom. Left a trail of blood on the (thankfully) wood floor. The bathroom sink and counter had blood all over it. Never saw so much blood in my life.
Couldn't stop the blood. Packed my nose with gauze and tissue. Had a pile pf bloody tissue on the countertop. Then it stopped as quickly as it started.
Spent the next half hour cleaning up the blood.
My darling cat continued to lay on the bed watching me.
She really is a sweet cat, but it was bedtime and she just wasn't in the mood for mom bothering her.
Nose still a little tender this morning, but no more bleeding.

(2,308 posts)Could also see the look on your cats face when you crawled back to bed after cleaning up the carnage. Thank you for the laugh (and glad youre okay).

(14,786 posts)to get the blood out of the bedding. Do not dry if their are still blood stains. If it there is, use peroxide on it. The peroxide may discolor the bedding, so decide if you would rather have the blood stain or a chance of discoloration.

(25,198 posts)As the blood hadn't dried yet I was able to first soak up as much as I could, then continually drenched it with the wet cloth, then blotting up the bloody water, repeatedly rinsing the cloth out in cold water and repeating the process. It took a while, but pretty much got it all out. Will wash all the evidence of the crime today.

(119,264 posts)No matter how I do it or which kind of brush I use, she hates it. And she has fur that mats, so she's a mess unless I can get that loose fur off her. She doesn't mind it when I work the mats loose with my fingers but she hates brushes. All of them. And she goes kind of berserk when I move in her direction with a brush or comb in my hand. She doesn't scratch - she stabs. She brings her paw down hard and pokes holes in me. Getting her into some kind of restraint is as dangerous an effort as brushing. So she gets brushed a little bit at a time and I get perforated. Lately I have found that elbow-length leather rose gloves are helpful, so now I attempt cat grooming looking like I've taken up falconry.

(25,198 posts)She will stand in the living room and plaintively meow until I say "do you want a brush?" she then replies with an upbeat meow and jumps on the ottoman waiting for me to brush her. She will stay there letting me brush her until I try to pick her up, at which point she takes off like a bat out of hell.
This happens upwards of 4-8 times a day, depending how much I'm home.
Here she is on "her"ottoman.

(2,778 posts)Amazing how quickly they can go from "this are nice chin skitches human" to " I must flay ALL the skin from your arm" back to "don't you want to pet me"?

(25,198 posts)But I did use a q-tip to first wash the inside of my nostril with alcohol. Boy did that sting, then I applied an antibiotic cream. So to my relief I woke up with a normal nose this morning, well at least my normal.
