Counting the cars on the New Jersey Turnpike...

For the fifth straight year, toll revenue and traffic was up on both the New Jersey Turnpike and the Garden State Parkway, exceeding projections.

The Turnpike Authority, which operates both roads, reported a total of $1.788 billion in revenues for 2016, $1.57 billion of it from tolls.

He had kept a tally of the tolls he'd paid along the way. I can't remember the exact figure, but it was shocking, somewhere around $20. I think part of what was shocking was that there were so many, well over a dozen.

the tolls cost more than the gas I used.

I was on a business trip in San Francisco in the 80s and I spent more on parking than food.
