The history: My daughter has a pet snake that she feeds a dead rat to every couple weeks. Sometimes the snake won't eat it and it sits there for several hours and begins to smell. One evening, my daughter4 was out after dropping the rat in the cage and I wanted to make sure the rat wasn't there overnight. I texted her: "Did you toss the rat?" Afterwards I realized it sounded like a great term for puking! So our family has started using the term. Not that we "Toss the rat" a lot, but it does sound appropriate! Feel free to use it.
