2. Mama killed a chicken

3. Theres a picture opposite me
Of my primitive ancestry
Which stood on rocky shores and kept the beaches shipwreck-free
Though I respect that a lot,
I'd be fired if that were my job,
After killing Jason off, and countless screaming Argonauts.
4. Well, I dreamed there was an island
That rose up from the sea
And everybody on the island
Was somebody from TV
And there was a beautiful view
But nobody could see
'Cause everybody on the island was saying:
Look at me!
Look at me!
Look at me!
Look at me!
(Props to anyone who gets this one.)

(3,398 posts)Elvis Costello is a great name, but his original name was Declan Patrick Aloysius McManus. It seems wrong somehow not to use such a great name. I dont think he legally changed it, though...he sometimes credited his compositions to DPA McManus.

"So, bye, bye, Miss American pie..Drove my Chevy to the levee but the levee was dry"

(27,849 posts)"Deportee (Plane Wreck at Los Gatos)" is a protest song with lyrics by Woody Guthrie and music by Martin Huffman.
It was about a 1948 plane crash near Los Gatos Canyon, 20 miles west of Coalinga in Fresno County, which killed 4 Americans and 28 migrant farm workers who were being deported from California back to Mexico.
It's a great song!

(27,849 posts)Shortly after being born in Kentucky, her parents moved to Greenwich Village, New York City, where she grew up
She attended the progressive "Little Red School House" "where she met musical icons like Pete Seeger and Paul Robeson.
She left school in the 11th grade to become a member of the "Song Swappers" folk group.
She was a familiar folk singer around Greenwich Village around the time Bob Dylan first arrived in NYC.
In 1961, Dylan's manager, Albert Grossman, signed her and made her part of the trio that would become Peter, Paul & Mary.
Shortly after she returned to NYC from a trip to Florida, a friend asked her: "Mary, how come you don't have a tan from your trip to Florida?"
She replied: "Albert Grossman told me not to stay out in the sun very long because he wanted me to be a pale blond."
