The one I can see frequently is 28 Days Later. Though I still don't know why the guy was on the hospital bed at the beginning of the movie. On edit: ust heard it on t.v. He was in a car accident. I think.
The one I hate is 28 Weeks Later. Anyone know if there was a sequel to this one?

(47,675 posts)But yes, the original had a great ending. The uncensored version shows the little girl eating her dad's innards with a hand trowel or something. It's been a LOOOONNNGGG time since I've seen any of them.

(44,228 posts)close second for me is the 2004 remake of Dawn of the Dead.
Honourable Mentions: Dead Snow and DeadGirl.

(46,706 posts)I haven't seen Dead Snow or DeadGirl. Do they play often on HBO or showtime?
SidDithers
(44,228 posts)Dead Snow is a Norwegian film - can't remember if it's dubbed or subtitles. It's great, tho. Not just zombies, but Nazi zombies:
DeadGirl is disturbing. It's not a pleasant movie at all, but it's a gripping look at descending morals.
Because of the subject matter, it's not really HBO or Showtime fare. Again,, you may have to go looking for it online.
Cheers,

(422 posts)It's.......icky. But also a very interesting take on the genre. Dead Snow is freaking awesome, but see it subtitled.
Other than that,
Dawn of the Dead (2004). I know that's sacrilege for a lot of Romero purists, but it's a damn good zombie movie. It also uses music very well, the opening credits with Johnny Cash's "When the Man comes around" is brilliant
While "28 Weeks later" has several flaws, the opening rager attack is maybe one of the scariest intense scenes around.
If you like your movies with an extra helping of cheese, I recommend "Flight of the Living Dead: Outbreak on a Plane"
"Fido" is a really cute Zombie movie from Canada. Yeah, I said cute.

(44,228 posts)I like Billy Connolly in anything, tho. Loved him in the Boondocks flix. And Trinity as a mom
I liked 28 Days too. It was much better than 28 Weeks.
Now I have to go find Flight of the Living Dead. Thanks for the suggestion.

(12,008 posts)It's only sort of a zombie film, I guess, but only because Romero and Fulci defined the genre so well, but specifically. Earlier zombie films were far more varied, but often not so great. Fulci's Zombi is definitely up there too... Man, I just like zombie films.
Baitball Blogger
(46,706 posts)I think it's because there's a feeling that there's no talking sense to some people that makes it a reflection of "real life."

(12,008 posts)There was a time (several years time) when I would watch THE WORST films if they were zombie films - I'm talking about the bottom of the barrel direct to video dreck. I found no hidden treasures that way, but did find good ways to entertain myself while drinking a six pack or bottle of wine late at night.
Part of what's fascinating about it is that it's not just some people who are zombies, but that it could potentially be anyone, at any time. It's also just a very simple way to set up a situation with an unambiguous enemy that all of those remaining are against and that we as viewers won't side with or can't feel sympathy towards.

I don't think there was a sequel to 28 Weeks Later.
