I've lost a good inch (no jokes), and that's when I can stand up straight.
I said, no jokes.

8. A bone density scan is the best way to determine if shrinking is from bone loss

Sometimes a bad knee, bad hip, bad back or bad neck can cause posture issues that appear to effect height.

9. Maybe that is it. I would assume it is not bone loss as I drink lots of milk and always have. Thanks

You may just have the beginnings of osteoporosis but these days they have excellent treatments for it.

When I got my first bone scan, they diagnosed me with signs of osteoporosis. Rather than putting me on prescription drugs, the doctor recommended calcium supplements and vitamin D - if you don't get enough vitamin D, calcium will not help. I began both supplements as well as increasing my exercise as much as I could.

My second bone scan, years later, showed no signs of osteoporosis. Now that I am past the latest series of operations, I will start a new physical therapy regime after the first of the year and get back to hiking again - that should help with the bone density as much as the supplements do.

Here's a fun one for you - I went the other direction with my height.

I've been 5'3" all my life. After my knee replacements, on a after check with my regular doctor, the nurse measured my height - I was 5'4"! I made her re-measure since she was estimating the height with my shoes on. Still 5'4".

Partly it must have been the joint replacement along with the fact that I am no longer bow legged. But it is a shock to gain an inch at 60 years of age!

They should be able to give you advice.

Glad your knee is better!
