Unless the OP is going to use only kosher salt in their own cooking and won't be buying and eating any other food that already contains salt, they won't get a goiter. I've been using kosher salt in cooking for ages (you get more salty bang for your buck) with no side effects.

(972 posts)I've run across a couple of people in the last few years that had goiters, and my recommendation of Iodized salt was theraputic.
Someone that puts themselves on a reduced salt diet, and gets a bit overboard without knowing they need iodine, can get themselves in trouble.
A lot of the 'common knowledge' about the harmful effects of salt are based on dated information that didn't take in to account some important factors. The "salt is bad" idea has been so ingrained that a lot of bad info is taken as gospel.
A normal person can have a reasonable amount of salt in their diet, as long as they drink enough water.
