Except when they shoot themselves in the foot.

(11,464 posts)that is something that can be attained
random mass murders are a different story
and those bad cops should never have a gun again
nor should any law enforcement bring the gun home, they should leave it at the office at the end
Why good cops don't always want to rid the workplace of bad cops is beyond me
same with gun owners, why keeping them in the home and not out on the street isn't what everyone should want is beyond me.
the vast majority of cop abuse is towards minorities.
Obviously, better hiring to ensure cops are not racists, goes far,
as does getting rid of the bosses and finding new ones to train better
you almost never see cops abusing white people or shooting them multiple times without provocation
as mass shootings are never done by minorites, rethinking of everything needs to be done.
Far worse crime is done in mass shootings, than in common street crime, where $$$ and jobs
can remove the street crime.

(11,087 posts)Do you include Asians? Seung-Hui Cho (Korean) killed 32 at Virginia Tech.
Still, I went through lists of school shootings and mass shootings in general in the US, and the shooters are almost always white males. Of course, in other countries, that's not so much the case, though the shooters may be disproportionately from the majority racial/ethnic group. Do the majorities feel more entitled to act out violently?

(11,464 posts)and generally speaking the they have a gun so I need a gun mindset that can be overcome
I don't think there is any love of the gun mindset.
and this type can be stopped with $$$ and jobs
whereas the mass shooters do it for ego and publicity and love of the gun
and the old wild wild west, and wanting to copy the Dylans and Erics
Plus so many % are racist, and it appears, the Civil War is prevelant, the hate government,
the political links, etc.believe in conspiracy theories, let it fester, like supposedly McVeigh did
They would never give up their guns without a fight, and buy into the gun makes them the adult and the decider.
And warped views like they hate security, yet are captive to having a gun for security
(so that a gun is actually a prison, a gate, etc.)
and in general, the vast majority of mobs who bring in guns are the elite who funnel the guns into the poor areas, as are the drugs.
And it gets to the point that to survive they have to be part of it, unless an opportunity comes to get something to replace it.
And everytime there is a CT shooting type incident, the gun people immediately focus on their racial code words(especially gangs), yet gangs come around financed by outside forces(mafia, etc.)(and there are non-minority gangs too, but the gun people never seem to include those people
and the stockpiling of guns to take down the government seems to be equal to the teaparty,
which has almost non-existent minority
The guns worn and stroked at the Town Hall meetings in 2010 showed that it was allowed,
but
And the thought that had the Million Man Marchers all had guns, well that would never have been allowed.
and the double down by the NRA inciting even more gun buying just shows how they need to be stopped, and their threats do equal the taking down of government for the sake of their gun
simple street crime you don't have thought like that. You want $100 to buy food or drugs
or some material item. It's not political.
imho
and this is a hard topic to debate without distractions.

(36,649 posts)Do you really believe the incidence rate for accidents is going to be lower among the general population than it is for trained professionals? By all means, let's let everyone go armed: give Homer Simpson that AK he's always dreamed of, and that myopic granny should get her 357.

(15,741 posts)this is just an example that not just a trained cop, but a firearms instructor, was unable to wield a gun safely in a classroom situation.
Arming poorly paid security guards, parent patrols, and or teachers may well result in students being shot inadvertently.
In fact, I would speculate that the weapon is likely to be stolen and used by a disturbed individual in a moment of rage.
