Stewart to Christie, ‘If you have cancer and don’t have health insurance, that’s Hurricane Sandy'

http://www.mediaite.com/tv/stewart-and-chris-christie-clash-gop-only-wants-government-assistance-when-it-benefits-them/

On The Daily Show, Chris Christie claimed there was a difference between disaster relief and setting up the health insurance exchange. Jon Stewart replied, ‘If you have cancer and don’t have health insurance, that’s Hurricane Sandy.’

I have a friend who just spent 6 weeks in the hospital. He had just lost his insurance through the small non-profit he worked for.

The only difference is he has to file bankruptcy on $700,000 dollars instead of $60 or $70 thousand dollars.

He might have avoided the hospital stay altogether with a trip to the ER when he broke his toe. But who goes to the ER for a broken toe when you don't have insurance? The broken toe coupled with undiagnosed/untreated diabetes led to a massive bone infection resulting in abscesses on his spine.

Now he can't walk without the help of a walker and has to cath himself.

Medicaid denied his current coverage because he is not disabled. WTF?

What are the chances he gets even sicker while he waits for his appeal?

He can qualify for PCIP (Pre-existing Insurance Plan). I'm on it now, as is my friend who is currently undergoing cancer treatment. Feel free to ask me any questions.

watch the whole thing

when it started and Jon and Christie were buddy buddy over love of the Boss and NJ I thought he's not going to take this man down.

I was wrong.

He did.

The thing about Jon is he takes down a republican so well they are caught completely off guard. If you say "the GOP doesn't want to help the little guy" they come back with some talking point and everything gets lost in the dust cloud. Jon goes for the jugular without them seeing him coming and does real damage.

Notice how Fox etc never go after Jon? BowTie does because Jon destroyed him but no one else. Not in public at least. He's just that good. Colbert too. Hell, some right wingers probably miss the Colbert joke entirely.

to not go after comedians. That would be an un-winnable battle for them.

So, yeah, it's probably true.
