(4,507 posts)starring Mimi Rogers (the first Mrs. Tom Cruise) and David Duchovny? I saw it because I've always been fascinated by nutty religious beliefs (I'm one of those people who actually invites Jehovah's Witnesses into the house to talk.) Here's a plot summary from IMDB:
This is the story of a young woman (who lives in Los Angeles) with a very boring job. At night however, she and a male partner cruise the bars as swingers. After a time, she begins to believe that a conspiracy exists and decides that she must become a born-again Christian. The movie presents an interesting view of how even the most unlikely person might become born-again.

I really liked it, except that I wanted the sexual flagrancy of the first part to be more explicit. But what I couldn't understand was who was supposed to be the target audience--surely not atheists like me who watched it out of awe and delight. Because in the movie, the rapture *really happens*! And Mimi Rogers refuses to be saved!!! What was the matter with her?! Gabriel's horn was going to sound three times, and all she had to do was accept Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior before the last blast--and all around her she could see mountains crumbling and shit, and all the Christians were floating up in biiss--I don't think they were naked, like this guy says--and she had plenty of time, and she just wouldn't do it!
Spoiler alert: she had already murdered her child to spare her the ghastliness, and her dead daughter would be up in Heaven waiting for her, and still the dumb bitch wouldn't do it! Christ, *I'd* do it if I saw all this crap going on, but not old Mimi Rogers.
Anyway, there are some clips on IMDB if you want a good laugh.

It was a pretty lame film.

(37,641 posts)How to tell if the end-timers really believe in an upcoming rapture/end-times.
Are they accumulating long term wealth?
