(2,496 posts)The powers that be in the Defense and National Security community, together with the advanced military weapons industry, are looking forward about a decade and projecting that Russia and China will have largely collapsed as rival military and economic states. That, together with the increasingly dire fallout from climate change, will cause a mass shift in public opinion to redirect spending from Defense to disaster mitigation and other domestic needs. So the defense establishment along with wealthy private interests are in the market for a future enemy to justify continued defense spending. In addition, the allure of an Industrial Light and Magic kind of futurist technology will help sustain the pipe dream, and in exchange for the funding the public gets a Ghost Dance, deus ex machina hopium cult.
In the shorter term, this whole "disclosure" project could be useful as a massive distraction. Imagine if the Republicans engineer a "soft" coup in the next election by manipulating votes through state legislatures while at the same time the news is filled with images of generals trotting out crashed saucers and alien bodies.
Having said all that, I don't believe a word of it, and I doubt anyone else would either. The "red flags" that the video highlights are legitimate points, but they don't disprove what this guy says, and he comes with impeccable credentials and endorsements in the military establishment. It is worth looking at the other side. I don't come down on one side or the other, but I keep an open mind, and anyone who insists that they know the "truth" about this is just posturing. One of those 20th century physicists said: "The universe is not only stranger than you imagine, but stranger than you can imagine."
