Trump town hall: How the media covers a seditious presidential candidate - All In - MSNBC

"I find it very hard to defend the choice to give Trump a live platform," says Chris Hayes. "But that's one of the challenges he presents as networks begin the work of campaign coverage during a presidential election which centers on the guy who tried to kill American democracy." - Aired on 05/03/2023.

1. We have 2 political parties

one political party is trying to preserve our democracy and one is trying to end it and we have an AG who wants to be non-partisan.

I have not watched CNN for many years but I may watch the town hall for 5 or 10 minutes, not to listen to Trump, but to listen to how CNN moderates the town hall.

Donald Trump is a genius, he gets in the race early to force an institutionalist's hand. Garland does come through by putting Jack Smith in charge. This had to shake Trump up, so he starts doing presidential things; having campaign rallies, doing town halls.

Donald Trump is still trying to influence an institutionalist. Merrick Garland still has the last say in prosecuting Trump.

Fani Willis will get him you say, but look what Georgia is doing, the Magat legislature can fire Fani for not prosecuting minor drug cases.

Trump doesn't have the highest IQ, but he has hired excellent campaign managers and he was smart enough to get White House officials, lawyers. and elected Magat Congressmen to do his dirty work. Trump is on the verge of bringing down our democracy, Maybe Jack Smith can explain that to Merrick Garland before it is too late?

I can't see Trump going into this town hall stone cold, without knowing the questions ahead of time. Will CNN challenge Trump or just give him a platform to spread his lies? I may watch 15 minutes.

I haven't watched CNN since 2005 when they cut away from John Kerry speaking live before the Senate to show a tape of some right-winger, "for balance" they said. And I quit watching news during the 2016 campaign because all they showed was the offensive Republican candidate, figured I'd start watching again after the campaign was over. And here we are almost seven years later and who's still dominating the news??

I only watch Nicolle Wallace and watch Stephanie Miller and Thom Hartman.

I could never watch the entire town hall but I want to watch it long enough to see if my fears come true.

I can't wait to tell my Magat friends that they will be voting for a rapist, I so admire E. Jean Carroll, she is one brave woman.

Was hoping that the judge in the New York case would put a gag order on TFG just to shut him up. I couldn't stand to watch or hear him back in 2016 since he was just so offensive - and in that time he's gotten so much worse. How anyone can possibly support anything about him - supporting nazis? supporting those who want to execute Mike Pence, Nancy Pelosi and other members of Congress? attempting to bring down the government and establish a theocracy headed by TFG? - are these people suicidal or insane?
