Brigitte Gabriel (Arabic: بريجيت غابرييل; born Hanan Qahwaji,[2] 21 October 1964) is a Lebanese-American conservative author, anti-Islam activist,[3][4][5][6] and founder of the anti-Muslim group ACT! for America.

(16,644 posts)She seems to think it's possible to "draft" young people, send them to a "third world country" to "work" (whatever that means), and not let them back in until they "love America" (whatever that means)! Sounds all kinds of unconstitutional to me!
What kind of a lunatic thinks that American citizens could or should be involuntarily sent to a foreign country, let alone have to pass some kind of loyalty test to be allowed to come back? That is freaking bananapants bat crap crazy!
I have no idea who this weirdo is (someone mentioned a name, but I never heard of her), but she doesn't belong here herself with this kind of attitude.

(2,272 posts)... understand that MOST of us just aren't as racist and full of hate as they are. I say this as a 67 year old male. I welcome and applaud our younger generation for getting more political.

(613 posts)People generally go grow more conservative as they age. They engage in less risky behavior. They figure out how to save money and not over buy at the grocery store. They become more picky with the company they keep. They waste less. They tend to error on the side caution more. They think more about how far their dollar will go. They party less.
It does not mean they vote Conservative more, especially when the Conservatives are not conservatives.
Today's so called Conservatives in the USA are not Conservative at all. Today, Conservative in the US more than likely means Pro-Corporate, than it does Conservative.
As for the lady in this video, what she is talking about is not Conservatism, but Fascism. She wants to ship the young, against their will, to foreign countries, with the hope they will come back more contrite and willing to bow to the power structure. That is not Conservatism. On one side it is Fascist, because Fascist are all for forcing people to bend to their will. On the other side it is contrition and resignation, which is what she demands from them. She does not really want them to be more Conservative because if they were more conservative, they would think much more before throwing their votes to pro-Corporate stooges who are really only interested in furthering the desires of those who fund them.

(36,827 posts)It's just the parts they want to conserve are racism, misogyny, xenophobia, and pretty much every other hatred they have for everyone who doesn't look and think as they do. They long for the 50's when Jim Crow and segregation ruled the day.
The type of conservative mindset you speak about is more social and less political in nature and isn't mutually exclusive with a more politically progressive mindset. With age some people get wiser, and some just get bitter. The former weak minded sort are ripe targets for the effects of demagoguery. It's really the demagogues themselves who are pro-business at the expense of the masses. Their constituents are just the useful idiots that can be compelled to vote against their own best interests.

(6,958 posts)People get more conservative the less they need to struggle to live.
People who are not in a group which, as it ages, has less need to struggle to survive, do not get more conservative as they age. Rather the reverse.
The kids are responding tothe fact that all they can see in their futures is more and more struggle. And that's pretty clear-eyed.
If you want people to be conservative, work to make their lives better. That is what happened to a lot of Baby Bookers, who, in case anyone doesn't remember, were largely liberal in the sixties. Particularly those with privilege. Their lives got better, and they lost awareness of the fact that not everyone's did. They didn't get more conservative because they got older, but because they got comfortable.
