Col. John Spencer on one of the seminal moments in modern European history: The Battle of Kyiv. (Original Post) Tomconroy Apr 2023 OP
Might have been better if the video just focused on the slides. erronis Apr 2023 #1

90% of the presentation was of the colonel and the audience but the slides were put up so briefly that they weren't useful.

A transcript of his presentation would have been more useful.

Long but great analysis.

Bottom line is that it was not just that the Russian military is lacking, but that the Ukrainians are brilliant strategists and tacticians. And that includes the civilian population who stepped up to the plate.

US Army Col. Spencer was totally amazed that a Ukrainian grandfather with an assault rifle managed to ambush an entire large Russian convoy. And a Ukrainian grandmother with a cell phone was able to phone in the location of another advancing convoy which was then blown to smithereens by a drone.

US training is to avoid and ignore civilians or get them to safety. In Ukraine, they assisted the Ukrainian military.

The Ukrainian military was brilliant, always 10 steps ahead of the Russians. They basically outsmarted the Russians.
The Russians should have been able to take the Kyiv airport in a couple of days and fly the Russian flag in the heart of Kyiv. The Ukrainians wouldn't let them do it.
