though he also said erythritol is also used as an additional ingredient in other sweeteners that primarily use something else (he mentioned truvia and splenda as examples, which are marketed primarily as stevia and sucralose based).

Well, there is a third alternative, which I immediately discount, which is there is some kind of clickbait profit involved, but I don't give that much credence.
