OP
Yes I dread the shortened days approaching 12/21 but delight at the coming longer days afterwards.

God bless us, everyone...The conversion of Scrooge - Dicken's Christmas Carol
Especially the children...
When I was a child...1 Corinthians 13:11
Yes, when I was a child, our Christmas kid's service was on Christmas Eve. There was a mitten tree next to the altar on which to place our gift(s) for the poor (mittens or wrapped toy labeled only with a B or G. At the end, Santa would come up the aisle distributing candy to the children.
Someone complained, and that was the end of both traditions!

That very last reversal - for me - broke the immersion. He should've been told to stay with the tree.

because it means the days will start getting longer and my annual holiday depression will lift.
It's really the true New Year's Day. That's what it was before the Christers came in. They couldn't manage to wreck the celebration, so they just moved it slightly and coopted it.

(1,436 posts)9. I was waiting for
the cash register and the next day reports on Christmas retail sales.
PS: Gave up on Christmas a few years ago. Last night--candle lit house, very small living tree and a good meal. The main gift- a large check to local Food Bank.
Peace to All...
