In honor of all the women who continue to support the GOP politicians who said all those stupid things about rape, planned parenthood, and access to health care.

(13,141 posts)Tammy Wynette looks like something out of a horror movie.
And you can tell she is troubled about something.

I don't think she had an easy life... especially being married to George (Alcoholic) Jones.

(5,932 posts)Okay, okay, I admit it. In your video, she looks like a drugged-out zombie android. And, looking at the hairstyle, I'm forced to question the wisdom of our military's eventual decision to cancel the development of this promising Aqua-Net helmet technology.
I'll also admit that the lyrics to the song read pretty much like the Codependent's Manifesto. And that this rendition, which appears to me to have been performed live on an episode of "Hee-Haw", is awfully lackluster.
But people, try this: browse out to this youtube audio clip of the original recording:
Close your eyes and turn it up loud. Abandon all snark, and really listen. What you'll hear - I honestly believe this - is the finest and most heart-wrenching performance a vocalist has ever turned in, in any pop music genre, ever. I've felt this way about it since I was quite young.
And once, while I was still quite young (twenty-two), I actually got to see her perform, at a club in Tahoe. My Dad and I got there early, so we could get seats close to the stage. Of course, she closed with this song. And, as the song neared its end, she came down from that stage, and she waltzed right up to me, and she took my hand in hers, and she looked into my eyes, and she sang that last chorus just to me. Really! Me!
Well, you can imagine how special I felt. The feeling was short-lived, though, as the band rolled into yet another chorus, and she gently dropped my hand, and turned to my Dad, and took his hand in hers, and looked into his eyes, and sang that last chorus just to him.
And she wasn't done. Oh no, not by any means. It soon became apparent there were plenty of choruses left in her, as she turned to my Dad's friend and gave him the same treatment. And the little tramp didn't stop until she'd worked her way through that whole room, and done the same thing with every man there. Took a reeeeaally long time, lemme tell ya.
Is country music a great institution, or what?

(34,655 posts)my sister was on a roadtrip on her honeymoon when the car broke down on a country road, while my BIL was dealing with it, a man came down the road and offered to tow it to the garage to fix it.
It was Tammy Wynette's big ole place and they fixed it up for free, and sent them on their way.
They (sister, broinlaw) were on some country variety hour a few days later, and got to tell the story on the TEEVEE.

(34,655 posts)i called my sister, it was Loretta Lynn i was thinking of.
Ms. Lynn supported GWBush, but her views were all over the map. She was also friends with Pres. carter.
EDIT: both will forever be greats. both with controversy as have all great artists. Wynette quote on "stand by your man": "I spent 15 minutes writing ,and a lifetime defending it".
Lynn wrote on the pill, the war, etc.
My memory is getting so bad, I forget about 20 percent of what used to be available knowledge. That's the way it goes...
