connect to the conference via the Internet to make promises of policies that will never materialize just like the pevious three conferences?

Banning travel and commuting? Ridiculous. Nobody will go along with that. Those types of extreme demands are never going to happen... and that makes it easier for people to dismiss it, and characterize it as kooky "end times" sky-is-falling talk. I think it's better to focus instead on what's reasonable and doable. Better to have 50% participation than to be dismissed and ignored by 95%.
