(34,857 posts)She wasn't fired from The Talk for saying Pierce Morgan was entitled to his opinion. What trash. She was fired because she had a history of making racist and homophobic comments to others on the show and it finally caught up to the old crazy bat.
I am so over Maher. I used to be one of his defenders on DU but he half-asses everything. This wasn't a result of cancel culture - it was a result of the chickens coming home to roost for an abusive woman who has said some hateful things throughout her time on The Talk.
Fuck 'em both.

(206,601 posts)I'm not familiar with her or her former show, smacked of gossip magazines to me, but apparently this controversy was in the news. I was much more interested in the panel since they discussed breaking news and Rosa Brooks has written on the subject.

(34,857 posts)It really makes it out to be an action of woke cancel culture when it's not.
Look, I've stated on DU that Maher has been right about 'wokeness' and how liberals need to step back and not cancel everything that may seem a bit offensive or insensitive. But her case was absolutely justified. She's just not a good human being. Maher doesn't need her on and to reinforce a bs narrative about this.
It undermines everything else, especially when he makes valid points.

(206,601 posts)There have been other times when I've skipped watching certain guests, but I try to remember that Bill's previous show was "Politically Incorrect." Sometimes I agree and sometimes I don't. I think he tries to make things "interesting," and there have been many times it's just been irritating, like tonight. But fortunately, Sharon Osbourne wasn't the only guest - or discussion.

(206,601 posts)I really liked the panel this week, they did a good job discussing current news. I wasn't particularly interested in Sharon Osbourne, didn't watch her show or follow her controversy, but that's just me. And I realize that not every guest will be my favorite or someone I'm necessarily familiar with, but I always learn something.

(39,335 posts)Maher praising DeSantis? Gag moi. Praising him for getting the vax to seniors first against CDC rules? Well it wasn't to save them - it was to get their votes! And what about getting the vax to wealthy communities and the subsequent campaign donations. 60 Minutes did a piece on this - can't believe Maher didn't comment on that!!
