This has nothing to do with growing a spine and everything to do with chasing votes. Cruz and Hawley are competing for the asskissing Trump Sycophant primary vote, and she as a brown woman can never compete in that crowd. They will only tolerate her. Therefore, she has to look for votes in other places so she takes a slightly more moderate ( for a Republican) stance.

I thought they were circling the wagons.

She's just another politician seeing the writing on the wall. Trump will spend his end days wrapped up in lawsuits and legal entanglements. He's toast and she is smart enough not to cling to his coattails anymore.

Nikki Haley is the ultimate R... she acres only about Nikki Haley. She was initially against Trump. But that didn't help her career.

Then she was ardently proTrump because for four years it appeared to help her career. There were all those murmurs that Trump would replace Pence on the ticket with her to try to win back white women's votes. But he didn't come through on that promise. Another shocker -- trump and his minions may have lied to her.

Now she looks at he poll numbers and sees that -- shocking -- all that Trump touches dies.

So, being the ultimate opportunist -- she says a chance to jump to the front of the postTrump republican party. So in 4 years, when she runs against Cruz, Rubio, Hawley, etc for president. She will be able to say that she saw the light and denounced Trump during the trial that all those GUYS acquitted him. See -- look at me, I am a kind, compassionate R who was duped by Trump -- but not as long as these guys. I didn;t vote against him or try to get him convicted in the impeachment but .... she will have excuses.

This is simple calculus to her. She is hoping that the Never Trumpers will accept her as the leader over someone like Kasich because she might have the lure to bring "suburban women' back to the party while distancing herself from the co-conspirators in the Senate. She is hoping that all the elephants will have very short memories of how diligently she was a trump sycophant and lackey.

It may work. It may not.

But as always Nikki is all about Nikki.

You know, like Ivanka does. In which case, it's not such a big deal -- Nikki will join a long line.

Big deal only because she had to get her timing just right. Is she accepting donations yet?

How about we hear about how her policies differ from t***p's? Oh wait, there's no daylight between the two...now that's a big deal.
