Donald Trump Has a Graph Showing the U.S. Is Actually Doing Great at the Coronavirus

In a half-hour long interview that aired Monday night, President Donald Trump again showed why the United States response to the coronavirus pandemic has been so disastrous. The back-and-forth with Axios Jonathan Swan would be comical, if it didnt involve real lives. Instead, its crushing. Its crushing to watch the president sift through printed out graphs that somehow spin the U.S. response he has presided over as anything other than a national humiliation. At one point, when presented with the reality of a runaway number of cases in the U.S., Donald Trump, Americas president, conferred with a colorful computer printout of a graph or chart or whatever absurd thing he was holding. The United States is lowest in numerous categories, he stammered. Were lower than the world.

: Oh, youre doing death as a proportion of cases. Im talking about death as a proportion of population. Thats where the U.S. is really bad. Much worse than South Korea, Germany, etc.
@realdonaldtrump
: You cant do that.
Swan: Why cant I do that?

Trump Tries To Recast Second Surge In COVID-19 Deaths As Achievement For U.S.
Were last, meaning were first, Trump said in an interview with Axios, referencing unclear statistics.

President Donald Trump once again pushed back against statistics showing an uptick in coronavirus death rates in the United States during an interview with Axios that aired Monday.
The president sat down for a sweeping interview with the outlets Jonathan Swan on July 28. Swan pressed Trump on figures that showed a recent dramatic rise in the daily death toll linked to cases of COVID-19.
From the beginning of their discussion, the president tried to downplay the number of American deaths. After talking about his television ratings and campaign rallies, Trump said he thinks the coronavirus pandemic is under control.
How? A thousand Americans are dying a day, Swan said.
Trump replied, They are dying, thats true, and you ha ... it is what it is. But that doesnt mean we arent doing everything we can. Its under control as much as you can control it.
During another tense exchange, Swan asked Trump about the rise in average death rates that began in July as tens of thousands of Americans tested positive for the virus each day amid sweeping reopening measures around the country. Those new cases reached more than 75,000 a day on July 16, and while average daily infection rates have since begun to decline, at the time of the interview the seven-day average for reported deaths had risen to more than 1,100 per day.
Those averages continued to rise in the days before the interview aired, and more than 155,000 people have died in the U.S. since the pandemic began........................
