I think it was quite a coup for Stephen to get him to explain about the special counsel investigation - but they go way back, he was a regular on The Colbert Report.

Katyal helped Trump stack the Supreme Court with Republican partisans, because Katyals clients pay him to argue before the Supreme Court.

And here I was impressed with his intelligence. Though, in that case, I'm surprised that Colbert didn't bring that up. He's obviously not afraid of controversy, but then he had him on for just one specific reason and that is a whole different issue.
