(17,304 posts)right up to the final words from AOC. Anyone who's thinking of watching should tune out after that, if they're like me. I didn't need to listen to the "narrator" blab on all self-righteous like.

(1,201 posts)Hard to believe Bernie introduced Medicare for all in the Senate about 5yrs ago and didn't get one cosponsor. Now it's a major campaign issue for all candidates, just like free higher ed, etc and saving the planet with alternative energy from Carter on it just keeps growing. our young people will make sure. Small donation...no corporate money...slowly getting money out of elections. Dems are remembering FDR and showing we are the people's party.

(22 posts)AOC picks up the mic, and a minute later she drops it to the floor, right in front of Cuomo. At least it sure seemed that way.
Badda Boom baby.
AOC is the real deal.

(86,579 posts)I must admit that I was not going to make a decision on how I thought about AOC until she had some time in office. So far she's got my attention in a good way. Not bad for two months in.

Carter but solar cells on the WH roof which Reagan and the repugs had torn out.
Obama wanted to do infrastructure his whole admin but was obstructed by repugs. I wish she'd point out that Dems have been for all these things all along and have been blocked by THE REPUGS.

(1,265 posts)marches to the drum of their owners - billionaires one and all who have benefited immensely since Reagan brought austerity for we the people, and riches beyond belief to the .001%. So it seems to me that those we watch on tv are just like the Dutch political scientist who put Tucker Carlson in his place said, [MSM hosts] are millionaires being paid by billionaires to spread the billionaire doctrine. And that is, whats right for billionaires is right for the common person. I find it unbelievable that after 40+ years of this shit, control of the masses is still possible in this way.

She is a phenomenon.

(637 posts)The question was "how do you pay" referring to the programs she has proposed.
She never answered the question. She merely responded to it.
IMHO The correct answer is "income/wealth tax reform". A short, sweet, to the point, truthful answer. We won't accomplish any of the things she proposes without such reform.
I'm going to get ripped for not genuflecting at everything AOC says. I'm as progressive as anyone on this site but I believe AOC will be a detriment to the Dems going into the 2020 election cycle.

(713 posts)She is great. Someone mentioned that they can't wait until she is old enough to run for President. I think more importantly, she needs to inspire more people like her (Progressive/Green) to run for office. We need an army of Ocasio-Cortez types in Congress, in State Houses, in Governorships.
She also asked a lot of smart questions of Michael Cohen in that committee hearing. She is smart, likeable, and effective. It is no wonder Repubs are afraid of her. She is the real deal. We need many more like her. I hope that she has a long career. Maybe she will run for the U.S. Senate at some point. I think that she will be a good legislator. She certainly knows how to use the media, both traditional and social/internet. More power to her. We need more like her.

(713 posts)Why do you disagree?
Bernie42020
(22 posts)I wonder why?
Progressive2020
(713 posts)I wonder why also. For some people, it seems like there might be a rift between more Progressive Dems like AOC and maybe more Establishment Dems.
I think that when someone has been in politics too long, they can become jaded. AOC is a fresh face, which is good. I would like to see the Democratic Party become more Progressive with people like AOC and Sanders and others like them.
I think it is telling also that a lot of the policies that Bernie put forward were dismissed by many as unrealistic (Medicare For All, $15 Dollar Minimum Wage, Free University Tuition, etc). Now most Dem Candidates for President seemed to embrace them. They are popular policy positons.
I think Bernie's greatest political achievement might be the changing of the political climate to allow Progressive Policies to seem mainstream, which they ARE now, for many Americans.
AOC is certainly her own person, but she has been clearly inspired by Bernie. We need more people like her. She s exceptional, but we need a variety of new, diverse Progressive Democrats. AOC and people like her are a hope for the future.

(52,160 posts)The Supreme Court didn't rule that insurance premiums are taxes it ruled that the fine imposed by the IRS for not getting insurance was a tax. That is a big difference. I also think the stuff about the cost of funerals was a distraction as often that is cheaper than the treatment. A cheap funeral is maybe 5k, a fairly routine ER trip is well over that. The rest of the costs she listed after were on point.
