The Mummers Parade. One of my goals is to some day be there to see it.

I guess it has changed since 1984. Do they still have the string bands, the fancies, etc? I dressed my little dog up as a fancy mummer (she won a contest).

dancing and singing with a well-defined purpose that raises above the ordinary.
A tip of the hat to the group

Spent every New Year's Day sitting on a cold stone curb on Broad St. drinking that stuff in. Back in those days, there were no women in the parade, a fair amount of drinking (gotta keep warm!), and The Mummer's Strut was a part of everyone's routine. Here's one of the best, the Ferko String Band, rocking it old school in 1989.
And here's my life's irony...my married name is Mummer.
