entered illegally by jumping ship. All of them were welcomed to America back then. What is happening today makes my heart sick. We were a great nation - once.

So beautiful I'm bawling like a baby.

My German ancestors on one side and French on the other arrived here in the mid- to late-1800s. This great, sprawling nation took them all in. No reason they can't take asylum seekers in thru the southern border. We are not made less by them in any way -- it's our refusal to take them in that makes us less. MUCH less.

Wonderful post. I've seen a lot of videos about lots of ideas, events, times and people. This is one of the most powerful videos I have ever seen. Thank You for posting. I already put it up on Facebook and all the rest. got to add this, because of open immigration 108 years ago...I am here writing these words..

Thanks again.......Stuart

Seventy years ago for two grandparents, my father, my aunt, and my uncle.

Now the light is out and the world is in darkness.

Help us...Somebody help us.

9. K&R! My grandparents, too. They emigrated from Poland in 1912 and came through Ellis Island.

We put both of their names on the commemorative Wall there. I never met my grandfather, he came here at 18, they made him a citizen and sent him to France to fight for his new country. He met my grandmother later, she had arrived here at 15, was the eldest in her family and came with only a friend, and she must have seen sights exactly like this as her ship reached shore.
