My German ancestors on one side and French on the other arrived here in the mid- to late-1800s. This great, sprawling nation took them all in. No reason they can't take asylum seekers in thru the southern border. We are not made less by them in any way -- it's our refusal to take them in that makes us less. MUCH less.

(205,319 posts)We put both of their names on the commemorative Wall there. I never met my grandfather, he came here at 18, they made him a citizen and sent him to France to fight for his new country. He met my grandmother later, she had arrived here at 15, was the eldest in her family and came with only a friend, and she must have seen sights exactly like this as her ship reached shore.
