WTF is wrong with us FFS !!
While viewing this, keep in mind it was for wealthy (white) landowner men that rode the horse and buggy to the polls.
And IMHO Chris's Rock is right as to why they've kept it this way.
Will we ever stop being the Screwball country ?

(4,473 posts)On the first of the month, small business owners: shopkeepers, lawyers, doctors and so on would do their books for the previous month. So if the first of the month was a Tuesday, these people could not vote, since they would be otherwise occupied.

(45,859 posts)I always vote before election day if I can, either on a Saturday or after work on a random weekday. Blue states like early voting, red states not as much.
Politicians have stated that a mid-week day is preferable to weekends because people travel or go do fun stuff on weekends and wouldn't vote. They were clearly thinking of the type of people who have time and money to travel and have fun on weekends, not the hourly wage workers who lose income by taking time off work to vote.
It was the same reason they didn't want to make election day a national holiday. People would do fun stuff instead of vote.
We need more voter participation, especially the working class and minorities and urban/young people. And what helps more of us to vote is expanding early voting times and locations.

(63,979 posts)I voted that way because I would be traveling in Europe on election day. They gave me an envelope in which to put my ballot and seal it. It was pretty easy.
