Manafort's millions in debt to Russian mob figures with no way to pay off the debts. He knew the consequences of stiffing a mob boss or two out of several million bucks. He's out of a powerful position where he could do favors for Russia. He no longer can parlay his access to power with his deep and desperate indebtedness with criminals. You're right. Manafort will be lucky to remain alive in prison until his lifespan expires more naturally. If he gets out of prison, he's one of the walking dead. His best option is to spill the beans on Trumpy and his family, cop a plea, get out of prison after a few years, and get into a witness protection program. The second best option is to obtain a cyanide capsule and choose his own time.
