7. You do understand these animals have both open spaces and hidden places, right?

This isn't a cage, this gorilla is not caged. It's an area where they can retreat to away from the viewing public.

10. This magnificent creature belongs in his native habitat, not performing for our amusement.

how happy he would be with his own kind in the wild?

11. Sad that you believe he is performing for you rather than playing in water.

or that human emotions apply to other animals.

6. Unfortunately, gorillas are becoming increasingly dependent on zoos merely to survive as a species.

They're still routinely murdered in the bush, numbers dwindling, no one seems to be able to stop it.

I agree with you, but at this point survival is survival.

I hope we grow up as a species before the earth turns into a baked ball of mud.

That all being said, the gorilla's joy should serve as evidence of the continuum of consciousness.

12. Here's an article about zoo's and what happens to animals

Zoos Drive Animals Crazy

By Laura Smith
http://www.slate.com/blogs/wild_things/2014/06/20/animal_madness_zoochosis_stereotypic_behavior_and_problems_with_zoos.html

The article says that most zoo's are unable to provide environments that are really satisfactory for the animals (they are used to large habitats). Also, animals are moved for 'breeding' purposes (to other zoos). The environment and the disruptions cause - what has been termed - “zoochosis,” or psychosis caused by confinement.

The keepers have tried many things, not the least of which is medication (anti psychotics and SSRI's - for depression).

Anyway, the article came out a few years ago and changed my opinion about zoos. YMMV of course
